Bathroom remodeling is the coordinated replacement of the fixtures, tile, cabinetry, lighting and flooring in a bathroom as a single project, with one contractor holding the schedule and running every trade.

Installing a vanity is the easy part. The hard part of a bathroom is that a plumber, an electrician, a tile setter, a glass company and an inspector all have to arrive in the right order, and a slip anywhere in that chain can cost a week. What a Full Bathroom Remodel Includes

How the Project Runs

1. Consultation and measure. A designer comes to the house, measures the room, looks at what is under the floor and behind the walls where we can, and talks through what you want the room to do. You leave with a written quote.
2. Design and selections. Either a Collection adjusted to your taste or a fully custom design. Everything gets specified and ordered. This takes four to six weeks and is the part that sets the start date.
3. Demolition and rough-in. The room comes out, the plumbing and electrical go in, and the inspector signs off before anything gets covered.
4. Waterproofing and tile. The wet areas get fully waterproofed, then tiled. This is the longest stretch of the on-site time and the part that determines whether the bathroom is still sound in twenty years.
5. Fixtures and finishes. Vanity, countertop, toilet, lighting, mirror, flooring, paint and trim.
6. Glass and walkthrough. Glass is templated against the finished walls and installed when it arrives. Then we go through the room together and fix anything on the list before we invoice the balance.

What Affects the Cost of a Bathroom Remodel

Your written quote is built around your room, your layout and the finishes you choose. What moves the number:

• Whether plumbing moves. Keeping the toilet, tub and vanity where they are is dramatically cheaper than relocating them, and over a concrete slab the gap is wider still.
• Room size and tile area. Tile is priced by the square foot in both material and labor, and a floor-to-ceiling tiled shower is a lot of square feet.
• Tub and shower, or one or the other. A primary suite with a freestanding tub and a separate walk-in shower is two wet areas to waterproof, plumb and finish.
• Fixture and material grade. The spread between a solid mid-range vanity and a custom cabinet with a stone top is thousands, and it is entirely your call.
• Extras that are cheap now and expensive later. Heated floors, blocking for grab bars and additional circuits cost little while the walls and floor are open.

Where two of those are true at once, doing them as one project almost always costs less than doing them as two, because the demolition, the protection and the trade scheduling only happen once.
